The Bike to Work Challenge is the best way to celebrate bike commuting in Chicagoland! Track your trips June 15-29, but start getting prepared now. Here are a few easy ways to get your bike and yourself ready to ride:
After making sure that you and your bike are ready, the next step is finding the ideal route. There are a variety of ways to find the best route for you:
- The Chicago Bike Map will reveal the closest bike lanes and recommended streets for cycling.
- Plan your route online with a multimodal trip planner, like Google maps
- Ride with a friend: share routes, pass the time and have each other’s back!
- Reach out and find new friends to ride with:

Whether you want to head across town to a neighborhood festivalor avoid congestion, using your bike with CTA, Pace and Metra will save you money and time. Bikes ride for free!

- Bikes ride for free at any time on CTA buses
- Bike ride for free on CTA trains outside these hours: 7-9am and 4-6 pm
Metra allows five bike on all lines except the Electric Line. The Electric Line allows two bikes per car. All Pace buses accommodate two bikes. Read about Pace's bike program here
